The $0 Setup: Why Your iPhone is More than Enough
You don't need a cinema camera to go viral. You need better lighting and intentional composition.

INTRODUCTION
"Gear Acquisition Syndrome" (GAS) is a form of procrastination. You convince yourself you cannot start until you have the Sony camera, the Shure microphone, and the studio space. This is false. The most relatable content on the internet right now is shot on smartphones. We call this the Authenticity Advantage.
COMPONENT 1: LIGHTING IS KING (THE VISUALS)
A $5,000 camera looks terrible in bad light. An iPhone looks cinematic in good light. You do not need expensive softboxes.
Window Light: Face a window directly. Do not have the window behind you.
Exposure Lock: Tap your phone screen and drag the sun icon down slightly (
-0.3 EV) to create a moodier, professional look.
COMPONENT 2: AUDIO IS QUEEN (THE RETENTION)
Viewers will forgive grainy video, but they will swipe away instantly if the audio is bad. You don't need a boom mic. You just need to control your environment. Turn off the AC. Close the windows. If you are echoing, throw a blanket on the floor. Use the Voice Memos app to test before you record video.
COMPONENT 3: INTENTIONAL COMPOSITION (THE FRAMING)
Turn on the Grid Lines in your camera settings. Place your eyes on the top horizontal line. This is the Rule of Thirds. Ensure your lens is clean. 90% of "bad quality" phone footage is just a greasy fingerprint on the lens. Wipe it on your shirt before every single take.
The gear doesn't make the creator. The story does. Start with what you have in your pocket today, and upgrade only when your revenue justifies the expense.
