INTRODUCTION

Here is a terrifying statistic: 85% of social media video is watched on mute. People are watching in bed next to a sleeping partner, in a boring meeting, or on the subway. If you are talking without captions, you are effectively a mime. To retain attention, you must master the Visual Reading Experience.

LAYER 1: THE KARAOKE EFFECT (SYNC)

Static subtitles at the bottom of the screen are dead. You need dynamic captions that pop up word-by-word or phrase-by-phrase in time with your speech. This keeps the viewer's eye moving. If the eye stops moving, the thumb starts scrolling. Use colors to highlight Keywords that emphasize your point.

LAYER 2: PLACEMENT & SAFE ZONES (UI)

Amateurs cover their captions with interface elements. You must respect the "Safe Zones" of TikTok and Instagram.

  • Bottom Padding: Keep text away from the caption/comment section.

  • Side Padding: Avoid the like/share buttons on the right.

  • Center Focus: Keep the reading experience in the middle 50% of the screen.

LAYER 3: EMOJIS & B-ROLL (CONTEXT)

Captions aren't just text; they are visual context. Use emojis sparingly to illustrate nouns. If you mention "Money," show a 💸. If you mention "Growth," show a 📈. It triggers a dual-coding process in the brain, helping the viewer process information faster and retaining them longer.

Your video isn't just for listening; it's for reading. If your video doesn't make sense with the volume set to zero, you are ignoring the vast majority of your potential audience.
